Premier League Movers: Stars to Stash

Silly season is about to get underway once again thanks to the re-opening of the transfer window. With clubs given cash to splash (ie. Newcastle United), we can expect plenty of movement over the next month or so which will spark the inevitable FAAB war in many Fantrax leagues.

But how do you get one step of the game? Those with no FAAB left will have to sniff around for those current out of favour Premier League stars who could be moving within the league this month. In this article, we will look at those to pick up/trade for who haven’t had the best start to 2021/22 but could benefit from a likely move within the league!

Matt Doherty – TOttenham Hotspur – Defender

At the time of writing, it’s reported that Spurs wing back Matt Doherty is on the brink of re-joining former club Wolves. Before his big move to Tottenham, Doherty was up there with the best defenders in Fantrax and you’d think a return to more familiar surroundings will also see a return to that form.

He should be available in most Fantrax leagues, largely down to his disappointing showing so far. His value will rocket if he starts for a defensively sound Wolves side.

Adama Traore – Wolves – Forward

Doherty’s move could see Wolves star Adama Traore move in the opposite direction. Traore was on fire at the start of the season (without any end product, of course) but now it looks like Daniel Podence, Trincao and Hwang Hee Chan are all ahead of the rapid Spaniard in the pecking order at Wolves.

A move certainly isn’t guaranteed and even with a move he probably isn’t guaranteed game time. However, he’s barely getting a look in at Wolves meaning he may even push for the move himself. It’s likely that you will have to trade for Traore but should get him at a reasonable price at the moment.

Lucas Digne – Everton – Defender

He hasn’t featured for several weeks and now Everton have signed a new left back: it appears that Lucas Digne and Rafa Benitez haven’t patched up their differences and he may now be on the move. Understandably, Digne is highly sought after and the season ending injury of Ben Chilwell in particular may force Chelsea’s hand to put a bid in this month.

Wherever Digne goes, he will be a top Fantrax asset. Now is a good time to get those trade offers in ahead of any more serious moves and while the current owner is frustrated by his lack of playing time.

Linked to: Chelsea, West Ham, Aston Villa

Likelihood of move: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Potential new value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jesse Lingard – Manchester United – Midfielder

Surely the end of Jesse Lingard’s Manchester United career is just around the corner. A change of manager hasn’t seen an increase in minutes and Lingard’s recent Instagram post reminiscing of better times for him at West Ham has, no doubt, ruffled a few feathers.

With Said Benrahma at the African Cup of Nations and Lingard’s previous successes in a West Ham shirt a not too distant memory, David Moyes will almost certainly make the move. If not, he will be one of Newcastle United’s many targets.

You should be able to get Lingard on waivers when they next clear in your league.

Likelihood of move: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Potential New Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ross Barkley – Chelsea – Midfielder

I’m surprised Ross Barkley hasn’t tried to resurrect his career sooner. Once again, he’s been frozen out at Chelsea (bar the odd rare appearance) but his spell on loan at Aston Villa last season proved he still has a lot to give at the highest level.

Burnley have been touted as the team most likely to punt on the enigmatic Barkley, as well as boyhood club Everton if the fans can forgive him. He will be available on most waiver wires to take a gamble on.

Potential New Value: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Here’s a rumour that no one would’ve seen coming this time last year: Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Newcastle United. The Toon Army are rich and Auba is out of form and out of favour. It just could work.

Time to submit a low ball offer for Arsenal’s former captain, though I’ve seen him present on a few waiver wires recently.

Potential New Value: ⭐⭐⭐

Eddie Nketiah – Arsenal – Forward

Eddie Nketiah is unlikely to get anywhere near the Arsenal starting XI for league matches but has demonstrated how talented he is in recent cup games, most notably his Carabao Cup Quarter Final hat-trick against Sunderland.

Brighton and Crystal Palace are most likely to show an interest in buying the young forward and although Nketiah is going to be fairly goal dependant, if he starts he is a servicable FWD3 and should bag plenty of goals.

He’s almost certainly available on your waiver wire and could go under the radar.

Potential New Value: ⭐⭐⭐

Anwar El Ghazi – Aston Villa – Midfielder

This one may come as a little surprise…Anwar El Ghazi will be allowed to leave Aston Villa this month and could find himself at West Ham United. Davis Moyes is reportedly an admirer of the winger and although he may be seen as back up for The Hammers too, it’s still an improvement on the 0 minutes he’s seeing under Steven Gerrard.
