The Waiver Wire: Gameweek 21

Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.

In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.

Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 21 Waiver Wire has to offer

Jan Bednarek – Southampton – Defender

If the Southampton vs Newcastle game goes ahead this weekend, Jan Bednarek is our defensive waiver wire pick of the week. We tipped him to score well recently against West Ham and he unexpectedly repaid us with a goal! He doesn’t need clean sheets to score well as proven by 30 points scored over two weeks with three goals conceded.

Newcastle will be without star men Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin this week, meaning you’d have to go as far as saying a clean sheet for the Saints is probable rather than possible.

Will Hughes – Crystal Palace – Midfielder

With Connor Gallagher missing against Norwich in GW20, Will Hughes was asked to step in to fill the creative void and that exactly what he did. The fair haired midfielder won the penalty for the opening goal and scored 21 points in a dominant display.

Of course, he won’t face Norwich every single week but he plays against a West Ham side who can’t buy a clean sheet at the moment.

Danny Welbeck – Brighton – Forward

This one is a little more left field but Danny Welbeck gave us all yet another reminder of his talent this week when he leapt like a salmon to steal a late, late, famous point for Brighton against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Welbeck is never fit and healthy for long but he’s immensely talented and will be a threat for Brighton this week should he start against a beleaguered, depleted Everton side.
