The Waiver Wire: Gameweek 12

Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.

In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.

Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 12 Waiver Wire has to offer!

Toby Alderweireld | Tottenham Hotspur | Defender | 43% Owned

Jose Mourinho seems to have taken Spurs from being a leaky but attractive outfit to quite the opposite! Their style will win very few admirers but you can’t argue with recent clean sheets against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. Toby Alderweireld is at the heart of this new watertight unit and seems to be the more dominant defender between himself and Eric Dier. Continued clean sheet success would see Alderweireld notch a minimum 10 points on a regular basis. Priceless.

Joelinton | Newcastle United | Forward | 24% Owned

I didn’t think I’d be recommending Joelinton a few weeks back but after a goal and an assist in his last outing, here we are! The much maligned Brazilian was actually scoring decent ghost points before his late comer took him up to a huge 30 points. It’d be a surprise to see Joelinton lose his place in the side ahead of the visit of West Brom who shipped five goals against a less than prolific Crystal Palace side last week.

Christian Benteke | Crystal Palace | Forward | 18% Owned

When I saw Christian Benteke was finally getting his chance this weekend against West Brom, the second thing I did was tweet out my excitement. The first? Pick him up in every single league, of course. When starting Benteke, you never expect a goal but are pleased with the 8-10 ghost points he brings you. When he does score, however (as rare as that may be), his hitting some impressive scores. When he scores twice? No less than 35.5 points! As scrappy as his first goal looked, his second was absolutely clinical which gives me hope that he may be due another run in the side. Cash in and get him quick! The guy is fantasy gold!
