Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.
In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.
Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 18 waiver wire has to offer!
Leighton Baines | Everton | Defender | 1% owned
This FPL legend is back! For the short term at least. Lucas Digne was forced off once again with an injury at Old Trafford, meaning Leighton Baines was given a chance to roll back the years.
Baines scored well off the bench and could be an ideal man to plug the gap in your defence if Digne is ruled out. He will take sone if the corner duties and will be first in the queue for penalties.
James Tomkins | Crystal Palace | Defender | 17% owned
James Tomkins is one of Crystal Palace’s few fit defenders at the moment and should score well this weekend against Newcastle regardless.
Tomkins will fancy the aerial battle with Joelinton and/or Andy Carroll this week. He even managed to register an assist against Brighton on Monday night.
Gabriel Martinelli | Arsenal | Midfielder | 32% owned
Arsenal are an absolute shambles at the moment but Gabriel Martinelli continues to be their one bright spark.
In a very forgettable day against Manchester City, Martinelli was the only positive with his direct running and constant goal threat. Whoever comes in as permanent manager will surely seek to get the best out of this gifted youngster.
Christian Benteke | Crystal Palace | Forward
The lumbering Togga beast looks like he could be back once again! Christian Benteke was given his chance again due to an injury to Andros Townsend and with murmurs that Townsend’s layoff could be lengthy, the Belgian battering ram could be given a spell in the Palace side.
Despite picking up a booking, Benteke scored a decent 12 points on Monday vs Brighton, largely due to winning an incredible 14 aerials.
