The Waiver Wire: Gameweek 17

Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.

In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.

Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 17 waiver wire has to offer!

Djibril Sidibe | Everton | Defender | 22% Owned

Everton are back! Maybe… Rewind back to last Wednesday and Djibril Sidibe was being hooked off after a torrid half hour at Anfield. This weekend, he was arguably the best player on the pitch, assisting Everyone’s first goal and providing a constant threat down the right.

Everton don’t have the most attractive fixtures coming up but Sidibe’s aggressive defensive style and attacking potential makes him one to stash at least.

Federico Fernandez | Newcastle United | Defender | 12% Owned

Fabian Schar was Newcastle’s star defender last season but this season is all about Federico Fernandez.

The Argentine Centre back scored a crucial winner against Southampton at the weekend and the combination of his aerial presence and new found goal threat make him a genuine Fantrax asset.

His 12% ownership will surely shoot up ahead of Gameweek 17.

Jesse Lingard | Manchester United | Midfielder | 29% Owned

We’ve mentioned Jesse Lingard a few times on the site recently which is odd considering he doesn’t really score goals. Or set them up actually.

But Lingard’s recent return to the side has coincided with two impressive performances against Tottenham and Manchester City. The trio of Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial that linked up so well when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started as United manager have been reunited. If they rediscover that form, Lingard will be a useful asset once again.

Christian Atsu | Newcastle United | Midfielder | 9% Owned

The extent of our beloved Allan Saint-Maximin’s injury is unknown at the time of writing. However, his involvement against Burnley next week is highly improbable, meaning that Christian Atsu will most likely be involved.

Atsu played well at the start of the season in ASM’s absence and will be looking to capitalise on his team mate’s misfortune if he does indeed get recalled. His output is highly unlikely to be anywhere near that of Saint-Maximin’s but could chip in with a goal or two.

Kelechi Iheanacho | Leicester City | Forward | 11% Owned

It’s getting harder and harder for Brendan Rodgers to ignore Kelechi Iheanacho. A goal and assist off the bench last Sunday was followed up by a goal and assist from the start this Sunday.

Rodgers has an embarrassment of riches at Leicester at the moment with all of his attacking players playing well. You’d think after the latest showing, there’s a good chance that Iheanacho gets the nod over Ayoze Perez for the visit of Norwich City in Gameweek 17.
