Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.
In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.
Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 13 waiver wire has to offer!
Jose Holebas | Watford | Defender | 34% Owned
Fantrax favourite Jose Holebas returned in time for the crucial clash with Norwich City on Friday night and served up a timely reminder of why he was drafted in so many leagues this summer. The Greek defender scored 18 points including a clean sheet, two key passes and even managed to avoid his customary yellow card.
Holebas offers good value thanks to his attacking intent and set piece delivery and if the Hornets stick with the three centre back formation, this will only serve to improve his value. With Watford’s defence tightening and their immediate fixture list favourable, Holebas is one to watch on this week’s waiver wire.
Dejan Lovren | Liverpool | Defender | 37% Owned
Dejan Lovren appears to be doing what Joel Matip exactly what Joel Matip did to Dejan Lovren. Last season, Matip took advantage of Lovren’s injury and made the second centre back decision his own thanks to a string of fine performances. With Matip now sidelined, the big Croatian has filled the void and filled it well.
With Matip’s return date still unknown, Lovren should keep his place in the starting lineup, just as Liverpool’s fixtures begin to turn for the better once more. If Lovren keeps up his good form, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him reclaim his space as Virgil Van Dijk’s central defensive partner once more.
Michail Antonio | West Ham United | Midfielder | 36% Owned
To put it bluntly, West Ham are absolutely awful at the moment. The return of Michail Antonio will provide a much needed spark to a completely uninspired Hammers lineup, especially now that Manuel Lanzini is out for the long term once again.
With the likes of Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals also failing to impress, Antonio should fancy his chances of breaking into the starting XI straight away. His style of play means he normally scores well in Fantrax and so is definitely one to keep an eye on for this week’s waiver wire.
Andreas Pereira | Manchester United | Midfielder | 29% Owned
With Paul Pogba’s return date still unknown, Andreas Pereira has clearly marked out the attacking midfielder’s position at Manchester United his own for now and possibly for the long term.
Pereira’s good recent form was rewarded with his first goal of the season against Brighton on Sunday. His constant involvement in Manchester United attacks as well as his set piece duties meant the he scored well apart from the goal, largely thanks to three shots on target and three key passes.
Cenk Tosun | Everton | Forward | 8% Owned
I didn’t think I’d be writing about Cenk Tosun in this article a few weeks ago. The Turk’s last gasp effort saved the day against Tottenham on match day 11 and he was rewarded with a start at Southampton in Gameweek 12.
Tosun taking up the central position allowed Richarlison to take up (and shine in) his favoured wide position, meaning the previously out of favour striker will have a very good chance of keeping his place for Everton’s favourable Gameweek 13 matchup at home to Norwich City.
