The Waiver Wire: Gameweek 12

Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.

In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.

Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 12 waiver wire has to offer!

Steve Cook | Bournemouth | Defender | 31% Owned

Bournemouth are a different animal in the last month: an animal that can suddenly defend. Having failed to keep a clean sheet until Gameweek 9, the Cherries have managed three blanks in a row, the latest in a 1-0 win again Manchester United and the immovable object Steve Cook was at the centre of it.

Cook is a great option for this week’s trip to Newcastle United but also one to keep for the future as he often scores well without depending on the clean sheet.

Jetro Willems | Newcastle United | Defender | 29% Owned

Jetro Willems is the latest surprise differential star. The Newcastle wing back has averaged 15.6 points per match over the last four weeks, largely thanks to his attacking prowess which has brought about two assists with eight key passes.

Barring the visit of Manchester City in Gameweek 14, Newcastle’s run of fixtures is kind and the flying full back’s good run of scoring looks set to continue.

Onel Hernandez | Norwich City | Midfielder | 16% Owned

We tipped Onel Hernandez last week with little success. However, what his inclusion did prove is that he is firmly in Norwich’s best eleven (whatever that may look like).

This week sees the latest “must win six-pointer” in this season’s Premier League when the Canaries host fellow strugglers Watford and Friday night and Hernandez will, no doubt, be part of the majority of Norwich’s attacking play.

Moussa Djenepo | Southampton | Midfielder | 24% Owned

Southampton haven’t had a lot to shout about this season but Moussa Djenepo has been one of their few success stories. It seems crazy that the Saints actually came away from a trip to Sheffield United win a 1-0 win but it was thanks to Djenepo’s mazy run and finish that they came away with the three points.

However, “Mane lite” as he’s being called by many Fantasy Premier League players, has suffered with an injury and has been missing since the Bramall Lane success in mid-September. Gameweek 11 marked his return and with Southampton’s failings obvious for all to see, Djenepo should walk straight back into that lineup.

The sample size is small but the 24 points scored against a stubborn Blades defence suggests Djenepo should be a decent asset to keep hold of in Fantrax.

Jonjo SHelvey | Newcastle United | Midfielder | 11% Owned

The Longstaff duo made way for the old guard of Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey for Newcastle at the weekend. The latter of the two took full advantage of his chance in Gameweek11, striking a long range free kick to top an impressive display.

Shelvey should keep his place at the start of a favourable run for the Magpies and his speciality at set pieces means he also represents good fantasy value.
