The Waiver Wire: Gameweek 6

Those who think Fantrax Leagues are won and lost at the draft are wrong. Very wrong.

In fact this is where the winners will be winners because of their sharp eye for a bargain and the losers will be losers because…well, they ignore the Waiver Wire.

Each week, we will analyse those low ownership players that could win you your match up or even become a mainstay in your roster for weeks and months. Here is what the Gameweek 6 waiver wire has to offer!

Tom Cleverley | Watford | 2% owned | Avg 10.62ppm

After another high scoring week, Tom Cleverley’s extremely low ownership should rocket after this week’s waivers.

Watford’s midfielder has scored well since returning to the starting XI but was at the centre of their stunning comeback against Arsenal, scoring in an impressive 25.5 point return.

Watford face Manchester City in Gameweek 6 so maybe Cleverley isn’t one to consider for this week. However, there’s no doubt that he’s one to stow away for future weeks, especially if his form continues.

Moussa Djenepo | Southampton | 11% owned | 11.5ppm

Last week we tipped Sofiane Boufal: you’re welcome. This week it’s the turn of Boufal’s team mate Moussa Djenepo.

Djenepo stole the show in Gameweek 5, waltzing through the Sheffield United defence to slot home the only goal of the game.

The goal was a well deserved reward for a sparkling display for the Saints new man who scored 24.5 points in Fantrax.

Southampton face Bournemouth this week on Friday night so Djenepo could be the one to give your Gameweek the perfect start if you get him off the Waiver Wire. Comparisons are already being drawn with former Saint Sadio Mane…

Serge Aurier | Tottenham Hotspur | 45% owned | Avg 31.75ppm

Serge Aurier already has an ownership of 45%, solely due to all those who jumped on him following a surprise inclusion in the starting lineup.

He grabbed his chance with both hands, helping himself to two assists and a clean sheet in a 31.75 point showing.

If he has, indeed, nailed down that Spurs right back slot for the time being, you could potentially be helping yourself to a DEF1 off the Waiver Wire.

Diego Rico | Bournemouth | 2% owned | Avg 12.25ppm

I’ve spoken about Diego Rico before. A lot. I just think he’s got e erything needed to be a great Fantrax asset!

His 2% ownership stems from the fact that Eddie Howe doesn’t seem to trust Rico defensively. However, with injuries forcing his hand, Howe played the Spaniard against Everton and Rico didn’t let him down.

His 16 point haul in Fantrax owed a lot to his perfectly weighted assist for Callum Wilson. His set piece delivery was also on the money and he always looks a threat going forward.

If (it’s a big if) Rico keeps his spot, he’s a genuine long term asset to poach from the Waiver Wire and to use in favourable match ups.

Chris Wood | Burnley | 2% owned | Avg 1ppm

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. I’m personally well set for forward options in my Fantrax leagues so it’s highly unlikely I’ll be going for Chris Wood this week.

However, if you need a short term flyer, Wood could be your man. He’s due a goal, that’s for sure and has some favourable fixtures on the way.

You’ve heard of the FPL phrase “chasing points”. Well this is the opposite. Five points in five games is appalling, even in Official FPL. Surely Wood’s barren spell comes to an end soon. Surely…
