We’re finally underway! After much anticipation, the FPL community draft league kicked off after weeks and months of hard negotiations and drafting.
Twenty four draft enthusiasts from several different nations will compete over two leagues throughout the duration of the season, competing to a win a tidy £300 and, of course, the coveted FPL Community trophy.
Twelve teams will compete in the two leagues with the top four qualifying for an eight man super league starting in Gameweek 32. The winner of the super league takes the title.
Simple enough? Thought so. Here is how our coveted managers got on in Gameweek 1…
We begin with a comprehensive victory for @draft_fpl who takes the early lead in League B. A tidy 134.5 owed largely to an Ashley Barnes haul of 30.5 points sees him sitting pretty at the top.
Yellow Card Wanderers, managed by Croatian Stipe Renje will be disappointed by this start. He will look forward to welcoming Wilfred Zaha back into his lineup.
The Exiles still have Nicolas Pepe to welcome back into their roster…
Let’s talk about our very own team for a second. The commissioner got off to a flier on Friday night thanks to Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino and managed to keep the lead for the whole match up.
Minato FFC managed by Satish Vasanth replied with a 44.5 points from his defensive trio but Shane Duffy’s 20.5 points and 16 from Anthony Martial was enough to give the commissioner a commanding 130.75 points.
In one of the tightest match ups in GW1, Fantrax HQ’s very own Fantasy Football Chaps narrowly lost out to @JoeRivers96.
The Chaps held a narrow lead through most of the match up and Harry Kane’s double (26 points) looked to have been enough for a victory for them.
However, Pierre Aubameyang’s goal as well as Manchester United’s defence gave Joe just enough to emerge victorious.
Probably the worst team name but definitely not the worst team this week. “New Team 4”, managed by Ireland’s Andrew Russell broke the 100 mark to beat USA’s Jofo.
Andrew will have been happy in drafting Raheem Sterling but may have pulled off a master stroke in nabbing Riyad Mahrez, the two combining for 68.5 points to start the weekend.
Few highlights for Jofo but Son Heung Min and Moise Kean to come in off the bench should give Jofo a much needed boost.
Our Hungarian friend @tottiandor was the first to register a win on the board in the FPL Community League B.
He’d already done enough by Sunday to claim the win largely thanks to defensive giants Virgil Van Dijk and James Tarkowski.
FPL Hazardous will be pleased with Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s return (22 points) but will have little else to be happy with as Marcus Rashford (20.5) put the icing on the cake for Totti.
Finally, @phatphantasy and @SkyPlayerinFPL played out another closely fought encounter with the latter coming out victorious.
Lingardium Weviosa (great name) had the honour of picking first in the draft and went for Mo Salah who scored a tidy 24.5 to give him the perfect start. His strike partner Raul Jimenez as well as a strong defence make this team one to fear.
Phat Phantasy put up a decent fight through Paul Pogba, Matt Doherty and Fabian Schar on Sunday but Jamie Vardy couldn’t provide the goods to complete the comeback.
