It’s fair to say that the PFA team of the season selection has raised a few eyebrows since being announced recently.

Did Paul Pogba deserve to stutter his way into the midfield three?

Should Ederson have kept his Brazilian counterpart out from between the sticks?

Is Mohamed Salah a victim of last year’s success?

All valid questions, but now is the chance to right the wrongs. Kind of. It’s time to vote for your Fantrax FPL team of the season.

Rather than picking the Raheem Sterlings and Sergio Agueros of this world, this team will (hopefully) be filled with those surprise players who you picked low but dragged you to wherever you are in your league. Assuming you’ve finished well. This is where the Matt Doherty’s and even the Shaun Morrison’s of the game will get a good look in!

Goalkeepers

Alisson Becker (Liverpool)

As previously mentioned, a league high 20 clean sheets wasn’t enough to secure Alisson Becker’s spot in the PFA team of the season.

“He’s got Virgil Van Dijk in front of him. I could probably play in goal for Liverpool”. Fair enough, but Alisson has still pulled off 70 saves this season, 15 more than Ederson who gained the spot in goal.

The sheer number of clean sheets, coupled with the fact that only 20 goals have gone past him this season means that Alisson sits at the top of the goalkeeper scoring charts with 274.5 points, a score that also places him at 55th in the overall rankings. Not bad.

Lukasz Fabianksi (West Ham United)

From a clean sheet magnet to a save magnet.

No goalkeeper in the Premier League has made more stops than Lukasz Fabianski has for West Ham this season, making an impressive 140 saves so far this season. That’s 13 more than his closest competitor.

Keeping only six clean sheets hasn’t really mattered for the Pole between the sticks. He sits second in the rankings with a tidy 257.5 points.

Ben Foster (Watford)

Old hand Ben Foster was ready to hang up his gloves last summer after enduring a nightmare at West Brom. Thankfully for Watford and Foster, the Hornets swooped in and made him their number one.

It proved to be a shrewd move as the 36-year-old stopper has had a stellar season between the sticks. Watford look a sturdier outfit under Javi Gracia but the former Manchester United stopper has still been forced into 117 saves, helping him to a tidy score of 251.25 points.

Neil Etheridge (Cardiff City)

It’s been a season of (nearly) records for Cardiff City’s Neil Etheridge. His campaign may end in relegation but the first Filipino to play in the Premier League has had one to remember.

Etheridge had the chance to become the first goalkeeper to save three penalties in consecutive Premier League matches early this season. He missed out but was only the second goalkeeper to do two penalty saves in a row (10 points to those who can name the first to do it).

The Cardiff stopper did eventually make his third penalty save of the season, joining an elite list including David Seaman and Fabian Barthez who also achieved the feat.

His score of 237.25 has been hampered by the number of goals that have flown past him. It could have been much lower had it not been for the 127 saves he has made, the second highest in the league.
